Suffer the little children to come unto me and forbid them not, for of such is the kingdom of God. –Mark 10:14

St John’s Episcopal Church of Pleasantville offers religious education on most Sundays during the school year for children in grades Pre-K through 5.

church image   Classes typically follow the 9:30 family service and last 45 minutes. Lectionary based curriculum is combined with age appropriate Bible exploration and activities such as:

Pre-K–1st Grade:
Reading classic Old Testament Stories followed by a simple
hands-on craft project

2nd–3rd Grade:
Exploring a topic in detail and preparing simple reports and/or artwork to reinforce a theme.  Past projects have included Saints and The Ten Commandments.

4th–5th Grade:
Understanding weekly gospel readings in the broader context
of the Bible and church calendar.  Group discussions and
writing exercises encourage practical life applications.
Projects have included creating a personal list of “Apostles”
with important character traits, and making movie posters of
classic New Testament “parables”

Classes also come together for holiday based projects and activities such as the Christmas pageant and making Easter pew decorations.
